Our friend and textile artist Asif Shaikh is stopping in Santa Fe on his return trip to India. He will be returning from Oaxaca, where he was a speaker at an international textile conference. He’s a real joy to know and we are delighted to welcome him back to Santa Fe. I just received a package from India filled with a beautiful and festive collection newly created by Asif and his studio artisans for the holidays.

For this Thanksgiving holiday trunk show Asif is showing one of a kind, elegant, embroidered cashmere, silk-pashmina, fine wool and silk shawls. He is also bringing a stunning Ajarak collection, handwoven from silk and cotton fabrics traditionally block printed by master craftsmen using botanical dyes, then overlaid with Asif’s own unique, traditional metal and silk embroidery.

During the trunk show event Asif will discuss his new work with the ornate textile embroidery of India highlighting each style, its history, and other interesting details. His passion for traditional embroidery, combined with a deeply held aesthetic awareness and meticulous attention to detail, allow Asif to fuse fabric and embroidery into unique art pieces.

Every year I enjoy learning from Asif about the history and textiles of India. Asif has dedicated himself to the cause of saving and reviving the traditional art of India.

Christa’s perfumes

I am currently creating a diverse collection of perfumes and healing potions for the holiday season. In addition, Michael and I have been distilling pinon cones, sweet grass, meyer lemons, yuzu (a Japanese citrus fruit), lemongrass and more.

For the opening there will be an assortment of traditional holiday botanical perfumes. Among them will be Winter Spirit 2016, Pax, Joy, Desert Pinon, A Rose is a Rose, and many more.

I just made a fresh batch of Chest Balm and Heart Balm for the season as well as a massage oil for relieving general aches called “Comfort and Ease Joint Support”. It contains balm of Gilead, yarrow, black copal, St. John’s wort, frankincense, and helichrysum.

Please stop by to have a cup of chai, say hello to Asif, and enjoy all our new creations. I look forward to seeing all of you.

I hope you all have a relaxed and joyful Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Fragrant wishes,

Christa J. Obuchowski
